On This Day (OTD) uses Mocakebi (pronounced "moe-kah-kee-bee"), a read-only browser for TMG databases. When the output is sent to the screen and you click on a name in the list, OTD opens a Mocakebi window focused on the person whose name was clicked.

When you install OTD, it has Mocakebi built-in, but it also installs a standalone version that you can use directly, without starting OTD. You can not use the standalone version of Mocakebi at the same time as OTD or any other program that accesses your TMG database.

Share Mocakebi With Your Friends

Using Mocakebi, they can browse through your TMG data without purchasing TMG. You will not be violating your TMG license; Bob Velke of Wholly Genes Software has given his approval of this use.

Mocakebi's Main Window

Mocakebi's main window is reminiscent of TMG's Person View. It contains a list of the person's names, events, and relationships. You can navigate to another person by double-clicking on a bold name in the tag list, or by choosing one of the commands in the Navigate menu.

You can also switch to Tree View, which shows the ancestors of the current person. Double-click on an ancestor to make him or her the top of the tree.

Name, Event, and Relationship Details

If you double-click on the "label" column of the main list, Mocakebi opens a window which shows the details for the tag, including the tag type and the memo.

Double-clicking on a name in the tag details window will navigate to the person entry for that person.

Double-clicking on a citation entry will display the full source citation sentence.

Search by ID

If you choose Search by ID from the Navigate menu, you can key a TMG ID (Person Number) and Mocakebi will navigate to that person.

Search by Name

If you choose Search by Name from the Navigate menu, Mocakebi opens a window that is similar to TMG's Picklist. Unlike the TMG Picklist, Mocakebi's window does not immediately display a list of names. Key a surname or the start of a surname and press enter. Mocakebi will display all the names that match in a list that includes their ID, birth date, death date, primary father ID, and primary mother ID. Double-click a name in the list, or click the "Select" button, or press the return key to close the window and set the Mocakebi focus to the selected name.

You can also key "cardinal, j", etc., as the search target.

Mocakebi has to create a table to provide the Search by Name feature, and that may take a minute or more, based on the size of your database. It does that the first time you access the picklist in a session; after that it will open immediately.

You can open the Search by Name window with F2, and when the Search by Name window is open you can move back to the textbox using F2.
