nikkinz	for output in SS after the narrative it lists the children of xx and yy using primary names, I want to be able to select which name to use
Bob_Velke	How/where do you want to specify which name(s) to use?
nikkinz	then of course in list of reports to use tag name rather than primary name
Bob_Velke	List of reports wouldn't care about a _relationship_, of course.
nikkinz	If we could select the name on the relationship tag like event tags
nikkinz	then I would have to convince John to allow it in SS :)
Betty_Lou	Has anyone brought up that F7 for the memo does not put the curser into the memo to start typing?
Excalibur	I'd just like to say that I've entered about 500 new people in TMG since V6.0 was released and with one or two minor "annoyances" I haven't had a single problem -- heck, I don't even remember what the "annoyance" were ... well done on the release folks :-)
nikkinz	at present my SS output looks like they married one person using event name but had children by another using primary name due to adoptions
Bob_Velke	F7 to get the larger memo window, Betty Lou?
Bob_Velke	Thanks, Excalibur. Glad to hear it. There are some bugs, of course, and we're working on v6.01.

AllenM	nikkinz:Why can't you use the primary name for that purpose?
Bob_Velke	It works in the current beta, Betty Lou, so I guess it's fixed.

Bob_Velke	but at what moment in time is the relationship name supposed to capture?
Carol_S	I have to do genealogy off-and-on....my husband, kids, and boss seem to think they should have some of my time. Anyway, I got 5.xx and kept updating, but never really used it, other than to look up things sometimes. I have done LOTS in 6.0, though, and I LOVE it. Very smooth, very easy, nice features. nikkinz	I am talking about John Doe married Jane Adams then after the narrative it lists the children of John Doe and Elizabeth Hunt. in Johns narrative it looks like 2 people when Elizabeth Hunt legally is Jane

darrellm	Bob: Have tried QBE a couple times, and it didn't seem to have the flexibility I needed right then.
nikkinz	yes to me Liz is short for Elizabeth and I dont worry about that
Excalibur	I've used the QBE a couple times Bob ... sometimes it is very, very easy to use and that's the way to go; other times it just doesn't fit the bill with flexibility and have to go to the manyal method.
darrellm	Bob: QBE seemed to be potentially useful, and there wasn't anything in particular that I saw as a problem.

deliarobertson	Bob: I was playing about with a book in my genealogy project (which is English Uk)and some of the report options were duplicated in Afrikaans. Also periodically have some labels etc. pop up in Afrikaans. My Afrikaans translation project is entirely separate from my own genealogy project. Any thoughts.

Bob_Velke	And if they do, Nikki, how would your new feature deal with it?
George_B	Bob_Velke: Is there a way to print a single FGS when a person has multiple wives? It would be nice to have it ask "Which spouse?" to keep from having to print multiple FGS sheets when only one is needed to be update.
Bob_Velke	It is just a static page, George. It can't kick anyone. Did something happen with your browser?
Excalibur	Very true Bob and that's what good about it ... use the "easy" way when I can and then go to the "down and dirty" method when it doesn't fit the bill ... it's an option I'm glad to see :-)

George_B	Bob_Velke: Don't know. Just reading the chats when the Cruise page came up and I had to log back on.
nikkinz	the same way as event tags, its optional to use another name than the primary name. If they really want the output split by eachvariation. But thee point is like event tags it would be optional

Generation	Bob, Would it be possible to have the List of Repositories sort by abbreviation, yet print the entire place record.

Bob_Velke	Nikki, my point is that the sentence in question refers to each parent once - but in the way you've proposed the feature, they could each have multiple names associated with their relationship tags with various children. How will TMG know which one to use?
KathrynBassett	I have one guy with four wives. I only need to print him out with wife #2
Betty_Lou	Bob, Query by Example will be a great topic for my next users meeting
Bob_Velke	George/Kathryn, if you print FGSs for everyone at once, do you want to be prompted for each person who has more than one spouse?
George_B	KatrynBassett: My problem guy had three, but only two had children, so the third sheet is complete and NEVER needs to be reprinted.

deliarobertson	Darrell: Mine only happens with Afrikaans . . . I wonder if its related to other language options the user selects from time to time?
KathrynBassett	For instance, if I'm doing FGS for all ancestors, I want only wife 2 to print
George_B	Bob_Velke: Not necessarily. In that case I WOULD want all of them. But, if I choose one subject and want to print only, say, one of three wives' sheets, then I would like the choice.
KathrynBassett	I have several ancestors with multiple marriages
darrellm	delia: I believe it is simply because Afrikaans is first alphabetically. I do think other language selections matter.
darrellm	delia: I believe the occurrence is rare, though....
George_B	Bob_Velke: But, I never print sheets that way. I always print one for a specific purpose like to update it for my records, or to send to a realtive asking for information.
CheriM	I have a multiple marriage question. Please let me know when to go ahead.

KathrynBassett	George, me too. I was giving an example of when I wouldn't mind answering the question repeatedly, in order to have the question asked on an individual basis.
Bob_Velke	Generation, I'll put the Repository thing on the wish list.
nikkinz	there would still only be one name per relationship tag selected whether it is the primary name or the one selected to use. I understand if variations were used you would get 2 groupings like 2 marriages but as its optional we could control this

CheriM	I went to Terry R's site and printed out his thing on multiple marr. I figured out how to make a new tag and did that. But now, the marraiges never print out on the Journal report. I was forewarned this would happen and it did. Now what?

Bob_Velke	Nikki, in her relationship to Child#1, she could use Jane. In her relationship to Child#2, she could use Elizabeth. You want those two children in separate lists because their mother's selected name is different?
TerryR	CheriM: You made a new tag in the Marriage group?
LornaM	Print to screen and then print doesn't give you the chance to manipulate the data for the (now getting rarer) times you want to edit the data before printing
George_B	AllenM: Haven't tried that, but it might work. But, with all of the options and choices in TMG, what's one more little one?
Bob_Velke	Not going through the extra steps means adding an option that everyone has to deal with, Kathryn.
Kevin_Sholder	Bob, for REpositories, is there a way to print a list of the "references" linked to a repository? For example a cemetery is the repository, I'd like to be able to print a list of all sources and refences attached to them.
KathrynBassett	besides, sometimes I forget there is more than one spouse, til I tell it to print and it keeps printing pages because of the multiple wives
CheriM	Terry- I went to the + Tag, clicked on Add, clicked the radio button for marriage, called it Marriage1 (and Marriage2, etc), copy and pasted your sentences/coding into the Role/Sent tab (the 2nd tab.
nikkinz	Yes Bob that would be the result if they selected that option
AllenM	Lorna, but if you manipulate the data in a word processor, you can still pirint selected pages.
TerryR	CheriM: its doesn't have to be a separate tag type - I made those changes to the exiting marriage tag type.
CheriM	Terry==and when I went to change the marriage to M1 and M2, yes, it was in the Marriage group. I no longer saw all tags. Just mar. ones.
KathrynBassett	Bob, you couldn't set up preference to ask or not ask? FR had that (sorry to bring up a dos program, I know TMG is a lot more complicated, but...)
Bob_Velke	So John and Jane had two children but John and Elizabeth (who is the same person) had this one, Nikki?
TerryR	CheriM: If it doesn't print, I'd guess you are printing Selected tag types in the report, and haven't added the new one to the list.
George_B	KathrynBassett: I used FR (Quinsept), too, and that is where I got hooked on it.
Bob_Velke	I didn't say that I couldn't do it, Kathryn. But the feature design has to account for how everyone uses it. Answering that you don't use the feature a certain way doesn't help me overcome the question.
nikkinz	In my case I would select John and Elizabeth (Jane being her primary name) for all children, but I understand what you say could happen if they selected to use that option
George_B	AllenM: I do not want to have to use a WP just to print out a FGS.
TerryR	CheriM: Sounds like you made separate tag types for 1st, 2nd, 3rd - they should be roles in a single tag type.
CheriM	Terry--Oh duh! That's right. I was having 3rd grade sentences with my resided tag and so I checked only some of the tags (the ones I use). OK, I'll go in and reset that. Thanks.
KathrynBassett	I would imagine that there a a lot of people who would be grateful for it, even though it might not be something they'd ask for.
Bob_Velke	That's not my point, Kathryn.
George_B	Bob_Velke: How about this. If one is asking for a series of sheets to be printed, ask if they want to include ALL spouses or ASK before printing. Then they can make the choice up front.
TerryR	CheriM: By useing Roles rather than tag types, it can be his 2nd and her 1st, for example.
AllenM	George, I was answering a different question there. I always use print to screen for all of my "Working" reports.
KathrynBassett	A "preference" that says "when printing FGS, ask for multiple spouses?" or some such wording.
George_B	AllenM: OOPS! Getting cornfuzed here - sorry.
CheriM	Terry--I don't think I'm using Roles (yet).
John_C	Bob_Velke: Maybe a "Show Last Used Spouse only" option?

Bob_Velke	George/Kathryn, I will consider it but I get a lot of flak from people for adding an option in order to save some people one or two clicks while complicating the program that much more for everyone else.
George_B	Bob_Velke: But what if I wanted to print just the 2nd wife to send to someone and the first wife was the last updated or used?
TerryR	Yes, the multiple marriage article is based on using roles.
LornaM	John C - but that confuses the ? out of everyone who want to know why x and not y show up, and they'd forget to go and make the one they wanted the last used
CheriM	Excalib--I'll get there eventually. I barely got my sources cleaned up and organized and figured out how to do most sentences.
George_B	Bob_Velke: Not saving us a couple of clicks - saving us ink and paper from printing FGS that we don't need printed.
John_C	LornaM: They'd have to specify the one wife for people somehow. I'm not in favor of the option, but I realized that Last Used was already a capability of TMG
John_C	And they'd get all unless they tick the option
Bob_Velke	As was pointed out, George, you can print from the preview or from a word processor.
darrellm	Bob: I see a lot of value in offering a choice, where multiple marriages exist, to print all or selected. Paper and toner is the issue.
CheriM	Terry--I'm confused. The title of the Roles article is "Using Roles to Manage Multiple Marriages?"

George_B	Bob_Velke: By adding it up front in the printing process, one needs only to make ONE choice - print them all, if that is what they normally do, or ask me before printing multiple spouses. It will actually add clicks for me, but others can continue as usual with ONE click. Thanks for considering it.

TerryR	Cheri - the idea is you add all the Roles to one tag. Then assign 1st to bride, 3rd to groom; 2nd to both, whatever's needed.

Generation	When in the Research Task window, if I click on the source search window, if there is a source attached it takes me to that source in the MSL. Same thing happens if a repository is attached, it takes me to that repository in the MRL. But if I click on an attached event, it takes me to the MEL, but not to that specific event. Is this a bug? It^`2019s certainly irritating.
darrellm	Generation: I am similarly confused by what happens if I double-click an event in the MEL instead of using the "Edit" button.
CheriM	Terry--OK, I think this is what I find confusing. In your article, in the 3rd paragraph, last sentence, you said you "added the following new roles." That's why I clicked the + button on the toolbar. Then I clicked on New Tag. I couldn't figure out where to start doing this process. So I got lost.
deliarobertson	Bob, I am getting Afrikaans labels and report options in a book project even though my language is English UK and my Afrikaans translation project is entirely separate.
Bob_Velke	Are the references in the source template, Kevin? If so, you could print a filtered list of sources
darrellm	Generation: The result is I'm taken to a Person View instead of an Edit Tag view.
darrellm	Generation: It is not the same problem, but it is the same pattern, and it is at least puzzling.
Bob_Velke	I'll look into it, Generation (Teresa?). You could send me an email outlining it and that will help.

TerryR	Cheri - OK - got it. Don't create a new tag type - edit the existing one. On the Roles and Sentences tab, click New to add a new Role. Then define the sentence for it. Repeat until you have them all in that tag type.

CheriM	When you do certain keyboard shortcuts (^B, ^M, ^D, ^U) the screen pops up. Very convienent (sp). I'd like to make one for divorces. Is there a way to add a keyboard shortcut for that?

Carol_S	Cheri, when we are out of the chat and you try adding roles, feel free to send questions to TMG-L. No question is stupid and you will get lots of helpful suggestions and patient explanations without the confusion of several conversations going on at the same time. Well, OK, that last part is not true, but at least you can sort by subject and see the whole conversation together! :-)

darrellm	CheriM & Lorna: There are ways in Windows to create keyboard shortcuts. I would be careful about the effect on existing keyboard entries, though.
LornaM	CheriM: not that I'm aware of, but the custom toolbar is great - pop all sorts of frequently used things on it and one click and they're done. And that's from someone who is usually a mouser

darrellm	LornaM: I think Generation/Teresa is the living advertisement for dual screens. One for toolbar, one for current view....
CheriM	Gen--OK, but I'm not much into Tweaking things. I finally got brave enough to do the sentences. Before that, I just looked at what the sentence structure was and sat and thought about how I was going to make what I wanted to say fit into what the computer wanted.
nikkinz	but it would be nice to integrate them with the person id, crefs etc like we see with genbox or pocket genealogist
LornaM	Darrell - can't get the hang of dual screens, make do with my laptop on a network sometimes, and even then get thoroughly confused about how to navigate <g>

TerryR	Bob V: There was a good discussion in the chat room this afternoon after that chat on managing long and short place names. A new feature was discusssed that may work better than my idea to use styles for that.
bgrempler	CheriM, If you haven't done it yet, start a small test project. Experiment all you want without 'messing up' real data
Bob_Velke	That's the variable name that you would use in the source template to get that reference to output, Kevin.

Generation	Keven, I think if you do the list of sources, then use that as a list of citations that might work. not sure though
Bob_Velke	Yes, Kevin. That's the name of the variable that outputs that field.

Generation	Lorna, I have it divided by tag that are similar, and I know about where on the screen each type is located at.
CheriM	OK, no problem then. Just wondering. It's not my database; it's a friend's and it's sort of at a standstill anyways (now watch...there will be a flood of mail on his lines!)
Generation	If I understand you, you want a list of places where a source has been used that is attached to a certain repository.
CheriM	Generation--that's under Reports, then List of, then citations. Then you have to set it up, right?
darrellm	late: Is that a nickname or a question?
Generation	To get a list of all sources attached to a certain repository, do a LIST OF SOURCES and filter for Repostiory Number = [?]
Generation	Then once you have the list of sources, you can do the list of citations attached to that source.
CheriM	Gen--it took a little bit, but I got that one!
Excalibur	Teresa ... have you given any thought to adding all of your Tags to your web site Tag page? I'm a firm believer in not having to reinvent the wheel :-)

When in the Research Task window, if I click on the source search window, if there is a source attached it takes me to that source in the MSL. Same thing happens if a repository is attached, it takes me to that repository in the MRL. But if I click on an attached event, it takes me to the MEL, but not to that specific event. Is this a bug? It^`2019s certainly irritating.

If I understand you, you want a list of places where a source has been used that is attached to a certain repository.

Generation--that's under Reports, then List of, then citations. Then you have to set it up, right?

To get a list of all sources attached to a certain repository, do a LIST OF SOURCES and filter for Repostiory Number = [?]

Then once you have the list of sources, you can do the list of citations attached to that source.

Teresa: I have a question about the Death Tag - on your site there is a Role for Widow, but on my Death Tag there is only the room at the top left for the Principal Role - do I need to create a different Tag to do Widows?

coolg, No. Just go to the Master Tag List,and edit the current death tag and add a Widow role. You can then copy and paste the sentence from the website.
