You probably do not want to produce a web site that includes everyone in your TMG database. Second Site includes filtering options to limit what people and information are included in the output.
Including or Excluding Tags by Tag Type
If you want to include or exclude tags by tag type, check or uncheck the box next to the tag name in the "Tags" list in the Database Section.
Groups of People: Included, Excluded, or Shown?
Second Site divides the people in the dataset into three groups, people who are included, people who are excluded, and people who are shown. The shown group is a subset of the excluded group.
The People.Exclude Living and People.Flag Filter properties determine whether a person is included or excluded.
Included people are full members of the site. They have their own entries in the person pages, and they appear in the name index.
Excluded people do not have their own person page entries and do not appear in the name index.
The Show Excluded ... properties determine whether the name of a member of the excluded group is shown under specific circumstances. For example, the "People.Show Excluded Parents" property controls whether the names of excluded parents are shown in the narratives of their included children.
When people are excluded, it is as if they were not in the database at all. If they are shown, they are excluded except for the specific exception indicated by the associated "Show Excluded ..." property. If an excluded person is a principal in a multiperson event, that event is excluded even if another principal or witness is included. If an excluded person is a witness to an event whose principal or principals are included, the event is included but the witness is not.
Exclude Living
If you are going to publish your site on the web, you will probably want to exclude information about living people using the Exclude Living checkbox. If checked, Second Site will only include people whose Living flag is "N".
Flag Filter
If you want to include only a subset of the people in the database, you can use the Set Flag Filter... button in the People Section. This simple filter allows you to either include or exclude people based one or more values of a TMG flag. You can use TMG's List of People report to set the flag.
If both the Exclude Living and Flag Filter are used, then a person can be excluded from the site based on either filter. If they pass one filter, but fail the other, they are excluded.
Showing the Names of Excluded People
Four options in the People section can be selected to include references to people who are excluded.
The Show Excluded Witnesses checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded witnesses. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are witnesses to an event are not shown. When checked, witness names are shown even if the witness is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for them.
For example, if a person in the "Reverend" role for a Marriage event is excluded, but the Bride and Groom are included, the Reverend's name will show if the sentence for either the Bride or the Groom includes a reference to the Reverend role. The Reverend's name will not be a link, because as an excluded person he or she will not have their own person page entry.
The Show Excluded Children checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded children. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are children of the current person are not shown in the children section. When checked, children's names are shown even if the child is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for excluded people. The entry will include the notation "(living)" or "(excluded)" in place of the child's lifespan.
The Show Excluded Parents checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded parents. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are parents referenced via the [PAR], [PARO], or [PARX] variables are not shown. When checked, parent's names are shown even if the parent is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for excluded people.
The Show Excluded Principals checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded principals. When unchecked, which is the default value, events where either principal is excluded are not shown. When checked, an event shared by an included principal and an excluded principal will be included in the person page entry of the included principal. The other principal's name will be shown. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for excluded people.
