Overview

The Utilities menu includes commands related to managing the contents of the site folders and other helpful tools.

Output Folder > Explore

The Explore command opens the Output (-o) folder using the Windows Explorer.

Output Folder > Show Size

The Show Size command calculates the total number of bytes used by the files in the Output (-o) folder. Use this information to determine whether the site will fit on your removable media or within the disk space allotted to you by your web hosting service. For technical reasons, the actual number of bytes required to copy the files will be slightly higher, but the result shown by this command is a reasonable estimate.

Output Folder > Delete All Files

The Delete All Files command deletes all files in the Output (-o) folder and within all subfolders of the Output folder. Use this command if you want to make sure that there are no unnecessary files in the folder due to changing Themes, etc. After using this command, rebuild the site using the Make Site command.

Input Folder > Explore

The Explore command opens the Input (-i) folder using the Windows Explorer.

Theme Folder > Explore

The Explore command opens the Theme folder using the Windows Explorer.

User Data Folder > Explore

The Explore command opens the User Data Folder using the Windows Explorer.

Logs > Open Make Site Log

Opens the log file associated with the most recent Make Site command for the current SDF file. The log opens in your default web browser.

Logs > Open Publish Log

Opens the log file written when Second Site uploads files to the server in response to the Publish command. The log opens in the default text file viewer.

Most users will not understand the content of the Publish log. The command is provided as a convenience in case Family History Hosting technical support asks a user to send the log file to the support staff.

Search by Name

The Search by Name command opens a search window where you can search for names in a TMG dataset. The Utilities menu command may be useful when you are entering TMG ID numbers in text, such as in the parameters to the Page.PersonHREF() function.

For many properties, including chart parameters, Second Site provides an icon you can click to search for a name. When the Search by Name facility is used via an icon, Second Site will add the TMG ID to the associated text field automatically.

External Commands

If the user's customized 2ndsite.ini file includes an [External Commands] section, Second Site will add the command names to the Utilities menu. See the External Commands section of the 2ndste.ini help page for a description of the [External Commands] configuration settings.
