This page describes the Exhibits Section options. For other information about how Second Site processes exhibits, see the Exhibits page.

The Exhibits section allows the user to choose how exhibits are handled.

Exhibits Linked for Witnesses

If Exhibits Linked for Witnesses is checked, Second Site will convert embedded exhibits to linked exhibits when processing exhibits attached to events and where the subject is a witness to the event.

Output Folder

The Output Folder property controls the output folder for exhibit files. There are three choices:

Choice Result
Same as output folder The exhibit files will be copied to the Output (-o) folder.
Child of output folder The exhibit files will be copied to a subfolder named "exhibits" in the Output (-o) folder, e.g., if your SDF file is named mysite.sdf then the folder will be named mysite-o/exhibits.
Peer of output folder The exhibit files will be copied to a "-x" folder in the same folder that contains the Output (-o) folder. Second Site assigns the folder the same name as the SDF file with a "-x" suffix, e.g., if your SDF file is named mysite.sdf then the folder will be named mysite-x.

This is not a good choice if you plan to copy the site to a CD. The folder layout of the CD will not allow a folder to be a peer of the root folder, so the exhibit links will not work.

Exhibit Group Options

For each of the exhibit groups, you can choose one of the following three options:

Choice Result
Ignore The exhibits will not be included in the output.
Link A link to the exhibit will be included in the output. For images, a camera icon is used for the link. For text, a document icon is used for the link. The link leads to a page that Second Site creates for the image or text. For exhibits where the content cannot be embedded on a web page, Second Site will make the link directly to the document. The user's web browser will decide what to when the user clicks on such a link. For PDF files, for example, the browser will open Adobe Reader AKA Acrobat Reader.

Second Site uses the exhibit caption as the "tooltip" text that some browsers display when you position the mouse over the icon.
Embed  The exhibits will be inserted directly in the output.

Index Icon for Primary Image

If Index Icon for Primary Image is checked, Second Site will add an icon to the left of each name in the index if the person has a primary image and if the Primary Person Image property is either Embed or Link. The default is checked. The default icon is . The icon filename is "picidx.gif".

Text Is Preformatted

If Text Is Preformatted is checked, Second Site will wrap text exhibits with the <PRE> and </PRE> HTML tags. Browsers do not wrap text that appears between <PRE> and </PRE> tags. The default is unchecked.

Alternate Image Folder

If Alternate Image Folder is set to the path to a folder, Second Site searches the folder for Second Site-specific versions of exhibit files. If you want to use one version of an image with TMG, and a different version with Second Site, put a file with the same name as the original in this folder.

This feature is specifically designed for the case where you have a high-resolution image that works well with printed output, but doesn't look good on a web page and also takes a long time to download. Put a web optimized version of the exhibit in the Alternate Image Folder and SS will use the alternate.

You may set the value by keying the path in the textbox, or you may set it by clicking the [Set Alternate Image Folder] button.

Second Site will search the Alternate Image Folder for a file with the same filename and filetype. If that file is not found, it will search for a file with the same name and one of the common web images types (JPG, GIF, PNG). This feature allows you to substitute a JPG file for a TIF, for example.

Images from Alternate Folder Only

If Images from Alternate Folder Only is checked, Second Site will ignore image exhibits unless the exhibit has an alternate version in the Alternate Image Folder. You can use this option to limit the image exhibits on your site to the contents of the Alternate Images Folder only.

Internal Image Exhibits

Second Site supports external image exhibits only. TMG Utility will convert internal images to external images, and will also create resized images for the Alternate Image Folder.
