Overview
The People Section options determine what people are included in the output.
Properties
Exclude Living
The Exclude Living checkbox controls whether living people are included or excluded. When checked, which is the default value, Living People are excluded.
Second Site uses TMG's "Living" flag to determine whether a person is alive or not. Second Site defines alive as "Living=Y or Living=?". So, if Exclude Living is checked, only people with "Living=N" will be included.
A common problem for TMG users is the Living flag not being set properly. The Set Living=N feature in my TMG Utility program can help fix that problem.
I recommend that you exclude living people if you publish your site on the World Wide Web.
Flag Filter
The Set Flag Filter... button opens a dialog where you can set the flag filter. The Flag Filter can be used to specify whether a person is included or excluded based on the values of a TMG flag. While the Flag Filter is fairly simple, TMG's List of People report can be used to set the value of the flag; that effectively means that you can use the full expressive power of TMG's CRW to determine what people are included in the output of Second Site.
You can include or exclude multiple flag values. For example, if you have a flag whose possible values are "ABCDE", you can set the flag filter to
- include one or more of the values, or
- exclude one or more of the values.
The Combined Filter
The Exclude Living filter and the Flag Filter are ANDed together, which means that a person must pass both filters (if they are both specified) in order to be included in the output.
Second Site displays a logical statement below the Set Flag Filter button that shows the combined filter logic.
Suppress Details for Living People
The Suppress Details for Living People checkbox controls what data is shown for people with Living=Y or Living=?. If Exclude Living is checked, then Suppress Details for Living People is disabled and has no effect because living people are excluded entirely from the site. When Exclude Living is not checked, and Suppress Details for Living People is checked, Second Site will show only the following information for living people:
- Their primary name
- Their children
- Their marriages and divorces
All other information is suppressed. This includes exhibits, their lifespan and all tags except for Marriage Group and Divorce Group tags. Marriage Group tags and Divorce Group tags are shown to provide a context for the children relationships.
If Suppress Details for Living People is checked, Suppress Marriages for Living People is enabled. When enabled and checked, marriage and divorce details are suppressed for living people in addition to the other details suppressed by Suppress Details for Living People.
Showing Excluded People
The Show Excluded Principals checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded principals. When unchecked, which is the default value, events where either principal is excluded are not shown. When checked, an event shared by an included principal and an excluded principal will be included in the person page entry of the included principal. The other principal's name will be shown. In that case, the name is not a link, as there is no person page entry for the excluded principal.
The Show Excluded Parents checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded parents. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are parents of a person are not shown when a sentence includes the [PAR] or [PARO] variables. When checked, parent's names are shown even if the parent is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for them.
The Show Excluded Children checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded children. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are children of the current person are not shown in the children section. When checked, children's names are shown even if the child is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person page entries for them.
The Show Excluded Witnesses checkbox controls the appearance of the names of excluded witnesses. When unchecked, which is the default value, excluded people who are witnesses to an event are not shown. When checked, witness names are shown even if the witness is excluded. In that case, the names are not links, as there are no person entries for them.
Options for Living People
You have four options with respect to living people:
- You can use Exclude Living to exclude them completely from the site.
- You can use Exclude Living in combination with the four Show Excluded ... properties to show the names of excluded and living people, but reveal no further details.
- You can include living people in the site, but use Suppress Details for Living People to hide most of the details.
- You can include living people as full members of the site.
